Q1 Has Orbotech Seeing Record Year

YAVNE, ISRAEL -- Orbotech today announced first-quarter sales rose 12.2% to $103.1 million on stronger demand for PCB and flat-panel display inspection systems.

For the period ended March 31, net income was $1.6 million, versus a net loss of $7.9 million last year and a net loss of $5.4 million in the fourth quarter.

Revenues rose 3.7% sequentially.

Sales of printed circuit board inspection and imaging equipment were $38.3 million in the quarter, up 242% from a year ago, on strength in the HDI sector. Meanwhile, flat panel display orders have come mostly from large Korean manufacturers, Orbotech said.

The company expects record annual revenues in the range of $460 million to 470 million.
