BANNOCKBURN, IL -- Among the updates to the long awaited revision to the rigid printed board specification is guidance for selecting laminates, detailing their relative costs, and performance characteristics.

IPC-2222A, Sectional Design Standard for Rigid Organic Printed Boards, is characterized by the addition of several tables, giving at-a-glance information on a variety of material decisions. Tables include laminate selection, taking into account dimensional stability, CTE, and material consistency, among other factors; and PCB thickness tolerance recommendations.

The IPC task group also added guidance on nonfunctioning lands and their pros and cons; unsupported hole diameter, and hole aspect ratio.

It marks the first update to the IPC-2222 since it was originally published in 1998. IPC-2222A is intended to be used in concert with IPC-2221, Generic Standard on Printed Board Design, which replaced the popular IPC-D-275.
