FLAGSTAFF, AZ -- EDA market analyst Gary Smith passed away July 3 after a short bout of pneumonia.
Smith, a industry icon for his research on the PCB and semiconductor design software markets, was 74.
Smith had a bachelor's of science in engineering from the US Naval Academy and worked for National Electronics, International Rectifier, TRW, Signetics, Telmos, Plessey and LSI Logic, before switching careers.
In 1994 he became an EDA industry analyst for Dataquest (later Gartner Dataquest). In 2006 he founded his own company, Gary Smith EDA.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Kate Smith; a son and two daughters, two siblings and two granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held July 12 at 11 a.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in San Jose, CA in the Donner Room. For further information visit garysmitheda.com.
