ATLANTA – Overall electronics components sales sentiment took a body blow in May and collapsed to 72.2 points compared to the April index of 86.8, according to the monthly Electronic Component Sales Trend survey results from ECIA.

The May index of 72.2 was a drastic decrease from the previous expectation of 99.1 points, and is the third month in a row of declining results. The June outlook only improves modestly to 78.6 points.

"The most recent ECST results are a dramatic reversal from expectations of sales sentiment achieving an overall positive outlook over 100 in May," said ECIA Chief Analyst Dale Ford. "The results of the May survey combined with the Q2 ECST survey results point to an extended market recovery period with a turnaround in year-over-year growth coming at the end of 2023 at the earliest."

The monthly and quarterly ECST reports present data in detailed tables and figures with multiple perspectives and covering current sales expectations, sales outlook, product cancellations, product decommits and product lead times. The data is presented at a detailed level for six major electronic component categories, six semiconductor subcategories and eight end markets. Also, survey results are segmented by aggregated responses from manufacturers, distributors, and manufacturer representatives.
