SAN JOSE -- The global semiconductor market is expected to grow at a 0.3% pace in 2016, reaching $341 billion in total sales, followed by a 3.1% uptick in 2017, according to World Semiconductor Trade Statistics research.

Sensors and micro-ICs are both expected to rise 3.6%, logic is forecast to rise 3.5%, and optoelectronics is seen gaining 3.2%. Memory is forecast to drop 7.9%, while discrete semiconductors will slip 2.7% for the year. All major regions – the Americas (1.3%), Japan (0.6%), and Asia Pacific/All Other (0.2%) – are forecast for positive growth except for Europe (-1.6%).

Sales slipped 0.2% to $335.2 billion in 2015, falling just short of topping 2014's single-year record.
