MELVILLE, NY -- Park Electrochemical's second quarter net profits fell 37.9% to $4.96 million on lower sales and one-time earnings adjustments.
For the period ended Aug. 31, the laminates maker reported net sales of $42.4 million, down from $44.5 million a year ago. Park’s net sales for the six months ended Aug. 31 were $91.2 million, up from $87.9 million in 2013.
Park reported net earnings before special items of $5.02 million for the quarter, including pretax restructuring charges of $83,000 in connection with the closure of its Nelco Technology (Zhuhai FTZ) facility in Zhuhai, China, and the closure of its New England Laminates business unit located in Newburgh, NY.
During its fiscal second quarter 2013, the company recorded a tax benefit of $2.18 million due to a tax refund related to amended federal income tax returns and pretax restructuring charges of $119,000 related to the closure of its Zhuhai facility.
