TAIPEI -- Foxconn's chairman says the company plans to expand in the US, although he did not reveal further details.

Terry Gou told company shareholders that the world's largest electronics ODM/EMS company could also split more of its 20-plus business units off into standalone companies as a means to generate higher sales and ultimately public offerings. Foxconn recently announced the spinoff of its connector unit, and has already separated Zhen Ding, its printed circuit board fabrication business.

Gou also indicated the firm plans to push harder toward generating its own IP and licensing royalties.
