KUCHING, MALAYSIA -- Sanmina-SCI is restructuring its operations here but will not close its massive factory, government officials said.

Rumors have been swirling that the contract electronics manufacturer would shutter its 250,000 sq. ft. factory in the Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone, one of its six operations worldwide. The plant, the company's second-largest, employs more than 1,000 workers.

Assistant minister of industrial estate development Datuk Peter Nansian told local news media that the government has been notified of an impending restructuring, but no closing was taking place.
