WARRENDALE, PA – SAE International is offering a Counterfeit Parts Portal designed as an information clearinghouse for manufacturers dealing with the counterfeit parts challenge.
The trade group's portal amasses news, articles, opinion pieces, blogs, and regulatory and legislative information.
The number of counterfeit incidents reported by 387 participants rose from 3,868 in 2005 to 9,356 in 2008, up more than 140%, according to a study by the US Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry & Security.
The US Senate Armed Services Committee found 1,800 cases of counterfeits involving more than a million parts in weapon systems in a two-year period, 70% of which could be traced to China, according to reports.
