SIDNEY, NY -- Amphenol will incur tens of millions of dollars in flood damage at its manufacturing facility here, the printed circuit board and connector manufacturing company said today. Other companies in the area were equally hard hit.
The facility is expected to begin partial production early next week and ramp to near-full production within 30 days, Amphenol said.
Calls to other printed circuit board fabricators in the area, including Sanmina-SCI (Owego) and Endicott Interconnect Technologies (Endicott), have not been returned. However, phone lines to the Sanmina plant are down. Some 20,000 persons have been evacuated from the area and are not yet allowed to return home.
Amphenol issued preliminary estimates of flood-related losses, in excess of related insurance coverage, in the range of $20 million to $35 million. Significant abatement, cleanup and restoration efforts are well underway, the company said.
The entire region has been severely impacted by high rainfall and the back to back impacts of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, resulting in an unexpected and historic rise in water levels as well as pervasive flooding in the region.
The Sidney facility also incurred flood-related damage in 2006, and the company believes flood abatement actions taken then will help to mitigate losses from this flood.
The Sidney facility primarily serves the military/aerospace market.
