BUTTERWORTH, MALAYSIA -- Ibiden will invest up to RM1 billion ($330.5 million) to expand capacity at its local printed circuit board fabrication site.

On the day it began production at its first site in the Penang Science Park in Bukit Minyak, the company, the world's largest PCB manufacturer, said it will add a second plant. The second facility is due to come online by 2012, the company said.

"By the end of next year, Ibiden Electronics Malaysia will be the PWB factory with the most advanced technology and largest production capacity in the world," Takenaka Hiroki said.

Ibiden will employ an estimated 2,000 workers once both sites are up and running.
