FOREST GROVE, OR – It looks like the merger between Viasystems Group and Merix Corp. will bring little if any change to workers at Merix’s facility in Forest Grove.

In an announcement made earlier this month, Viasystems agreed to merge with the PCB fabricator. The deal, scheduled to be final next year, will create a combined workforce of 12,650 worldwide and an annual revenue of around $842 million.

In the deal, Merix will become a wholly-owned subsidiary. There were fears that jobs could be lost, as a major portion of Viasystems’ fabrication is located in China.

Following a shareholder presentation last week, Merix CEO Michael Burger tried to calm fears. “We believe the merger will have little or no change on the Forest Grove manufacturing site,” he told the Forest Grove News-Times, a local newspaper. “Frankly, we view Forest Grove as the crown jewel of Merix and one of the reasons Viasystems was as interested as it was in merging.”

Although both companies produce printed circuit boards, there is little overlap among their top customers. Current accounts are expected to remain unchanged.
