CAMDEN, SC –  Principal Minerals Co. has purchased the operating assets of Denkai America, the sole manufacturer of electrodeposited copper foil in the US.

The new entity will be named Camden Copper. Financial details were not disclosed.

The deal has received customary regulatory approvals and closed on April 22.

Denkai America announced in late November it would close the plant, citing financial difficulties there and in Japan. That set off a frantic search to find a buyer in order to maintain the domestic supply of this critical material.

The acquisition includes the real estate of the Camden, SC-based Denkai site, manufacturing equipment, and intellectual property related to the production of its existing electrodeposited copper foil in North America.
