MELVILLE, NY -- Park Electrochemical reported net sales rose 2.4% year-over-year to $29.8 million for its fiscal second quarter ended Aug. 27. 

Sales at the PCB laminate maker were up 8.8% sequentially.

Net income was $520,000, down from $1.98 million last year and $1.49 million in the first quarter.

Income before special items was $2.34 million, up from $2 million a year ago and down from $2.48 million in the first quarter. The company took pretax restructuring charges of $2.9 million related to the consolidation of its Nelco Products and Neltec business units and the fiscal 2009 closure of New England Laminates.

Pre-tax earnings before special items were $2.88 million, up from $2.16 million last year.
