ENSCHEDE, NETHERLANDS – A Dutch startup and a group of academic researchers are developing a foldable, tissue-like material called Flexiramics.
Eurekite plans to use the material to manufacture flexible ceramic printed circuit boards for heavy-duty electronics. A 10 × 10cm piece of the material would cost under €1.
Like other ceramics, the material is fireproof and nonconducting. Flexiramics doesn’t get warm after being held over an open flame. The researchers haven’t determined at what temperature the material would burn; heat sources in their lab reach 1,200°C.
Eurekite’s startup team includes three students at the University of Twente. A patent application for the material has been filed.
