WILSONVILLE, OR – Mentor Graphics reported fiscal first-quarter revenues ended Apr. 30 of $226.5 million, down 8.6% year-over-year despite a big pickup in PCB software sales.
The firm posted a net loss for the period of $419,000, compared to net income of $27.5 million for the same period last year. Net income attributable to Mentor shareholders was $205,000, compared to $28.2 million in the prior-year quarter.
Mentor's Integrated Systems Design unit, which includes its printed circuit board design software tools, contributed 30% of the company's revenue in the quarter, or about $68 million, up 37% from $49.6 million a year ago. Renewals during the quarter were flat, but will spike later in 2013 and 2014, said Wally Rhines, chairman and CEO.
During the period, the company announced the purchase of automotive assets of MontaVista.
Mentor says it had an all-time orders record for the first quarter. “Strength was evident in the IC design to silicon, scalable verification – driven by emulation demand – and new and emerging product categories,” Rhines said.
For the second quarter, the printed circuit board and semiconductor design software company expects revenues of about $245 million. For the full fiscal year 2014, the firm expects revenues of about $1.155 billion.
