WILSONVILLE, OR -- Mentor Graphics' largest shareholder -- and most important critic -- on Tuesday reiterated his desire for the company to be put on the block.
In a regulatory filing, dissident shareholder and notorious corporate raider Carl Icahn said he met Tuesday night with Mentor CEO Wally Rhines and other Mentor executives, who in reply indicated they would consider his request.
According to the filing, "On the evening of February 15, 2011, Carl Icahn and other representatives of the reporting persons had a discussion with the Chief Executive Officer and other representatives of Mentor Graphics and expressed their belief that shareholder value would be greatly enhanced if the company were put up for sale in an open and fair auction process and their belief that there would be several interested strategic buyers who could pay a substantial premium for the company. The company representatives stated that they would take the matter under advisement with the board of directors and get back to the reporting persons."
