TAIPEI -- Sales of printed circuit boards worldwide grew 11.7% year-over-year to $65 billion in 2017, the Taiwan Printed Circuit Association said.

It marked the fastest the PCB industry had grown in nearly 10 years.

Taiwan-based fabricators in China and Taiwan reported NT$619.2 billion ($21.1 billion) in sales in 2017, up 9.5% from a year ago.

Several board fabricators are embarking on capacity expansions to meet higher customer demand. Zhen Ding is expanding capacity in Huaian and Qinhuangdao, China; Flexium is constructing new plants in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and Kunshan, China; and Unimicron will add capacity in undisclosed locations, according to published reports.
