TAIPEI -- Continued innovation, better technical capabilities, supply chain integration, and greener production processes are the keys to PCB industry dominance, a new Taiwan Printed Circuit Association white paper suggests.

The trade group has set NT$1.15 trillion ($40 billion) in annual revenue by 2020 as a goal for the Taiwanese printed circuit board industry.

According to Dr. Hayao Nakahar's annual NTI-100 list of the world's largest fabricators, to be released in August by PCD&F, Taiwan's top 21 fabricators alone had combined revenues of $15.4 billion in 2013, up 5.8% over 2012. The rest of the industry's board shops aren't faring as well, however, says TPCA chairman Rick Wu, who pegs PCB sector growth at 2% per year.

In the white paper, the TPCA lays out a six-year plan to improve the country's position, with a focus on product development, environmental conservation, labor, equipment, technology and materials. The TPCA asserts that a domestic supply chain would be the foundation on which sector should rely.
