WASHINGTON – The US Department of Commerce said it started an investigation into possible dumping in the US market of imports of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin from Brazil, Indonesia, South Korea, Pakistan and Taiwan, according to reports.

By Nov. 13, the US International Trade Commission is expected to decide whether imports of materials used to make clothing and plastic bottles harm or threaten to harm US producers.

If so, the Commerce Department will continue investigating and make a preliminary antidumping decision by Mar. 5.

Petitions filed from Nan Ya Plastics and other companies prompted the investigation.
