LYON, FRANCE – Demand for mobile devices will spur MEMS devices to new highs, the latest research indicates. Some 2.9 billion cellphones and tablets will be sold in 2017, most of which with five to 10 MEMS devices each, says Yole Développement. The result will be a multi-billion dollar MEMS market, the firm says. “The market for MEMS in cell phones and tablets will grow 19.8% to reach $5.4 billion in 2017,” says Laurent Robin, Activity Leader Inertial MEMS Devices & Technologies, Yole. Three categories of MEMS devices are in high volume production today: Many other MEMS products are under development. Yole says novel MEMS opportunities need to be watched as they will fuel this market significantly: The rankings of the top players is evolving. ST Microelectronics was no. 3 in cellphone applications in 2009 and is now the no. 1 supplier by far, with $477 million in revenue from MEMS for cellphones and tablets in 2011. ST still dominates the MEMS accelerometer market, had an impressive start with MEMS gyroscopes, challenged only by InvenSense, and continues to expand to many other MEMS devices to become a one-stop supplier. ST's major clients are Apple, Samsung, Nokia, RIM and HP. Other large players are very focused on their core markets: AKM is no. 2, with $260 million in sales of magnetometers for electronics compass solution, Avago is leading the BAW filters and duplexers market with $244 million in sales, and Knowles is no. 4 with $233 million in revenues from MEMS microphones. ---------------------- 里昂,法国 - 为移动设备将创出新高带动MEMS器件的需求,最新的研究表明。
