WILSONVILLE, ORMentor Graphics has donated its fluid dynamics software to more than 700 US high schools in support of the Real World Design Challenge contest.

The product is embedded in PTC’s 3D mechanical design software, and enables the teams to analyze aircraft wing, tail and fuselage designs.

This year’s challenge will be the optimization of a commercial unmanned aerial vehicle (a drone) and will require design and CFD optimization. Each student team will have access to more than $1 million worth of professional software, donated by various sponsors, commonly used by aerospace companies for design of commercial products.

The RWDC was started five years ago to interest students in the pursuit of engineering careers, specifically aerospace.
