MULINO, OR -- Sunstone Circuits today released a new white paper that discusses ways to troubleshoot a number of common problems in the design-to-manufacture process.

Authored by Nolan Johnson, "Guidelines for Ensuring PCB Manufacturability" explores a number of straightforward ways to increase the manufacturability of printed circuit boards. It looks at such issues as the mismatch between DfM rules and component footprints, and at integrating back-end DfM tools.

"The rules of PCB design have changed little over the years, but the demands on the boards themselves keep increasing," writes Johnson. "The continued miniaturization of products means that many designs push the physical limits of PCB manufacturability. This makes poor performance or even failure more likely. Design for manufacturability now plays a more important role in the production process."
