EDA Revenue Up 3.8% in Q2 Print E-mail

SAN JOSE, CA – Printed circuit board and multichip module design software revenue rose 5.2% year-over-year to $148.3 million in the June quarter. The four-quarters moving average, which compares the most recent four quarters to the prior four quarters, for PCB & MCM tools increased 10%, according to the EDA Consortium.

 

Overall electronic design automation industry revenue increased 3.8% in the second quarter of 2013 to $1.65 billion year-over-year. Sequentially, EDA revenue decreased 0.9%, while the four-quarters moving average increased 5.3%.

The total revenue for the most recent four quarters was $6.72 billion.

“EDA industry revenue continued to grow in the second quarter,” said Walden C. Rhines, chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics. “IC Physical Design and Verification was especially strong in the second quarter, with PCB and MCM, SIP, and services also increasing. Geographically, the Asia-Pacific region again reported double-digit growth, with the Americas and Europe/Middle East/Africa regions also positive.”

The largest category, Computer Aided Engineering, generated revenue of $611.1 million for the period, down 1.2% compared to the second quarter last year. The four-quarters moving average for CAE increased 5.6%.

IC Physical Design and Verification revenue was $376 million, up 14.7% compared to the same quarter in 2012. The four-quarters moving average decreased 0.4%.

Semiconductor Intellectual Property revenue totaled $432 million, up 2.7% year-over-year. The four-quarters moving average increased 8.4%.

Services revenue was $86.1 million for the second quarter, an increase of 1.2% year-over-year. The four-quarters moving average increased 4.9%.

The Americas, EDA’s largest region, purchased $714.4 million of EDA products and services during the quarter, up 1% compared to the second quarter of 2012. The four-quarters moving average for the Americas increased 3.5%.

Revenue in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa was up 7.4% on revenues of $280.5 million. The EMEA four-quarters moving average increased 6.1%.

Second-quarter revenue from Japan decreased 12.3% to $226.7 million year-over-year. The four-quarters moving average decreased 3.4%.

Asia-Pacific revenue was $431.9 million, an increase of 18% compared to the second quarter of 2012. The four-quarters moving average increased 14.4%.

Companies tracked employed 29,304 professionals in the second quarter, up 3.9% year-over-year, but down 0.2% sequentially.
