Mentor Reports Record Profits, Bookings in Q2 Print E-mail

WILSONVILLE, OR -- Mentor Graphics reported second quarter earnings rose 35% year-over-year to $24 million. For the period ended July 31, the printed circuit board and semiconductor design software developer reported revenues of $253.2 million, up 7.4% from a year ago.

The company set new second-quarter marks for revenue, bookings and operating income.

PCB CAD software sales made up 20%, or about $50.6 million. The unit contributed $60.2 million in revenue a year ago. Mentor doesn't specify actual divisional revenues but rather provides them as a percent of overall sales. The unit is also responsible for 10% of the company's overall bookings, down from 25% last year.

For the quarter, North America made up 55% of the company's new bookings and 40% of its overall revenue. The next-largest market was the Pacific Rim, at 25% and 35%, respectively.

Chairman and CEO Wally Rhines guided for third quarter revenues of about $260 million. The company reiterated previous revenue guidance of about $1.155 billion for the year.
