HONG KONG -- Greenpeace identified three containers of electronic waste shipped illegally to Hong Kong. China bans import of electronic waste but it is legal in the U.S. to export it.

Greenpeace said the three containers arrived in Hong Kong from the U.S. port of Oakland, CA. The containers were destined for the Sanshui district in Guangdong province.

According to one source, Hong Kong authorities should refuse entry of the container and return it to the United States. Currently, the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department has held the containers on the pier waiting physical inspection by the Chinese recipient owners.
