Arlon has released 91ML, a thermally conductive epoxy laminate and prepreg FR-4 product that is reportedly compatible with lead-free solder processes. The laminate and prepreg products have claimed heat transfer characteristics suitable for multilayer PCB’s, in applications such as high-brightness LED’s, DC-DC power converters and automotive electronics. The company states that the product has 1.0 W/m-K thru-plane and 2 W/m-K in-plane thermal conductivity, and a decomposition temperature of greater than 350°C.
