LAKE FOREST, CA - Hard drive manufacturer Western Digital Corp. announced that the company has joined The Green Grid, a nonprofit consortium promoting energy efficiency in data centers and business computing systems.

The Green Grid's purpose is to provide industry recommendations on practices and technologies that improve data center energy efficiency. The organization claims that it will not endorse any specific products or methods, and that membership is open to companies interested in data center operational efficiency.

"As demand for storage continues to expand, the need for more efficient power solutions becomes paramount to our customers," said Tom McDorman, WD's VP and GM of enterprise storage. "WD's innovative GreenPower technology makes it possible for large scale data centers to increase storage capacity while minimizing  increases in power consumption".

"Western Digital is a welcome addition to The Green Grid," said Dr. Tom Bradicich, Green Grid director. "WD's expertise in power efficient hard drive technology will be a valuable addition to The Green Grid's mission".
