Q1 Handset, Notebook PCB Orders Down
Written by Philip Buonpastore
Friday, 25 January 2008
Notebook and handset PCB makers are experiencing a drop in the first quarter orders, which is expected to affect
revenues by 10-15% or more, according to published reports.
After
increases in notebook demand in the fourth quarter of 2007 set records
for quarterly revenues and shipments, first quarter seasonal slowdown
and the Lunar New Year holiday
have affected manufacturers, including Hannstar Board and GCE, who
expect their
first-quarter revenues to drop over 10%, sources reported.
Despite
the low order volumes in the first quarter, Hannstar Board reported that orders
are simply being postponed until the second quarter, and will have no impact to
the company's overall growth predictions for 2008.
Taiwan-based
handset PCB makers Compeq Manufacturing and Unitech PCB have
both stated that orders from clients are lower than expected. Compeq predicts
the reduced orders will cause a drop of 15-20% in its first quarter revenues,
while some market watchers expect the number to hit 25%. Unitech has already
revised its original prediction for the drop rate from 5% to 5-10%, according
to reports.
