ENDICOTT, NY - Endicott Interconnect Technologies, Inc. (EI) recently fabricated the PCB that won one of the Mentor Graphics Technology Leadership Awards in 2007. The design comes from the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory (ZRL) and designer Peter Dill.

The application is in a powerful, advanced optical packet switch. The PCB is the controller board that functions as the intelligence for the switch. The board has 36 layers, 36,053 blind vias, 29,246 connections and a total trace length of 1.6 miles. It was manufactured as 2 sub-composites, requiring multiple passes through the plating and drilling processes.

“This opportunity has been among the most challenging board applications EI has undertaken since its inception,” commented James McNamara, president and CEO at EI.
