SAN JOSE, CA – The electronic design automation industry revenue for the first quarter of 2007 grew to $1.35 billion, a 10% increase year-over-year, reported the EDA Consortium.
The four-quarter average growth rate was 15%. This increase reflects both the continuing growth of the industry as a whole and the growth of the MSS program, said the EDA Consortium.
“Consumer electronics and the continued move toward deeper sub-micron processes are fueling the need for advanced EDA tools in all segments of the industry,” said Aart de Geus, EDA Consortium chairman and CEO of Synopsys Inc.
Tracked companies employed 25,820 professionals in the first quarter, up 11% from the same period in 2006.
EDA’s largest tool category, Computer-Aided Engineering, generated revenue of $521 million, an increase of 2% year-over-year, reported the association.
IC Physical Design & Verification revenue was $357 million, an increase of 14%. Semiconductor Intellectual Property revenue totaled $245 million, a 5% increase over the first quarter last year. Services revenue was $89 million, up 11%. Printed Circuit Board and Multi-Chip Module revenue jumped 59% to $133 million.
North America, EDA’s largest region, purchased $619 million of EDA products and services in the first quarter of 2007, an 8% increase year-over-year. Western Europe revenue was up 6% with revenues of $232 million. Revenue from Japan grew 8% to $314 million. Rest-of-World continued to extend previous years of revenue growth by increasing 31% to $181 million year-over-year.
