DownStream Upgrades CAM350, Adds New Rules Check Print E-mail

BOLTON, MADownStream Technologies has updated its CAM350 verification solution. CAM350 V. 9 includes Streams Rule Check for performing PCB design analysis. This is said to allow users to shorten the amount of time spent analyzing a design by performing design rule checks, DFM checks and netlist comparison checks simultaneously.

“Analyzing Gerber layers in CAM systems is often a tedious and time-consuming procedure. For each type of design analysis to be performed, a PCB designer needs to set up and execute it separately, then view the results separately,” said DownStream founder Rick Almeida. “With Streams Rule Check, a designer can set up once and execute a variety of analysis simultaneously – or all in one ‘stream’ – saving time and increasing productivity.”

V 9 also contains enhancements to existing DFF and DRC functions including new negative plane checks, missing soldermask and floating antennas as well as a number of other enhancements and corrections.

Streams Rule Check reportedly allows users to create one set-up for DRC, DFF and netlist comparison; save multiple ‘streams’ based on technology, manufacturing capabilities or customer requirements to be used on future designs; execute separate analysis on discrete areas or different layers of the design; and view errors individually or in groups.

Design for fabrication analysis now includes new negative plane analysis; plated and unplated drill to copper; thermal annular ring; copper to true board edge; thermal tie width; plane separator minimum width; find antennas (non-terminating traces); missing soldermask clearance; and silkscreen minimum line width.

Development Kit Test Drives Innovative Cable Assemblies
3M introduces the Shielded Controlled Impedance (SCI) Cable Assembly Development Kit, 2mm. The development kit enables users to assess, test and design high-performance, 2mm SCI cable-to-board solutions. Engineers can attain multi-gigahertz performance from 2 mm printed circuit board connectors using 2mm shielded controlled impedance cable assemblies.

The SCI connectors save board space without affecting performance. Users can verify signal integrity, impedance matching and crosstalk performance for designs requiring up to 1 Gbps single-ended performance per signal line or 5 Gbps differential performance per signal pair.

The kit contains everything needed to assess, test and design, including a CD-ROM with application note, test instruction and technical sheets.
