SANTA CLARA, CASigrity Inc., a provider of power and signal integrity software solutions for integrated circuits, IC packages and printed circuit boards, has released PowerDC PKG and PowerDC PCB. This software is customized for system-level IR drop analysis and is said to help designers budget end-to-end voltage margins for every device on the package and board to ensure designs are operational.

PowerDC complements Sigrity's comprehensive power integrity analysis solutions by allegedly providing efficient and accurate DC analysis of IC packages and boards to show voltage drops at various component locations. It is said to locate hot spots that potentially could cause problems and possible neckdowns that could adversely impact electrical and thermal performance in the routing.

"Voltage margins are extremely tight for designs at 90nm and below, making off-chip analysis imperative for achieving operational designs. PowerDC ensures that designers can get accurate system-level IR drop analysis for packages and boards in a very efficient manner," said Jiayuan Fang, president of Sigrity.

Development Kit Test Drives Innovative Cable Assemblies
3M introduces the Shielded Controlled Impedance (SCI) Cable Assembly Development Kit, 2mm. The development kit enables users to assess, test and design high-performance, 2mm SCI cable-to-board solutions. Engineers can attain multi-gigahertz performance from 2 mm printed circuit board connectors using 2mm shielded controlled impedance cable assemblies.

The SCI connectors save board space without affecting performance. Users can verify signal integrity, impedance matching and crosstalk performance for designs requiring up to 1 Gbps single-ended performance per signal line or 5 Gbps differential performance per signal pair.

The kit contains everything needed to assess, test and design, including a CD-ROM with application note, test instruction and technical sheets.
