Mentor Acquires Volcano Communications

WILSONVILLE, OR, May 26, 2005 – Mentor Graphics Corp. has acquired Volcano Communications Technologies AB (VCT). The acquisition includes the complete product line of Volcano's automotive networking series that contains network design tools, embedded software and test and validation tools for all major automotive networks.
VCT provides the automotive industry with comprehensive networking and data communication solutions that support the user in the development of in-vehicle networking systems. The company is a member of AUTOSAR, participating in the development of an open network communication standard for the automotive industry. Their customers include AUDI, BMW, Daimler Chrysler, Volkswagen, Volvo, Ford, Fiat, PSA, Bosch, Delphi, Magneti Marelli, Siemens VDO and Visteon.
"This is a natural step forward for VCT. We have been creating development tools and embedded software since 1998 but mainly focusing on the European marketplace," said Antal Rajnak, VCT founder, vice chairman of the board and CTO/vice president of R&D. "We are excited that, by joining Mentor Graphics, we will be expanding into the global automotive marketplace while combining our strong technologies into Mentor's automotive design flow."
Mentor will continue to offer the full VCT product line.

Development Kit Test Drives Innovative Cable Assemblies
3M introduces the Shielded Controlled Impedance (SCI) Cable Assembly Development Kit, 2mm. The development kit enables users to assess, test and design high-performance, 2mm SCI cable-to-board solutions. Engineers can attain multi-gigahertz performance from 2 mm printed circuit board connectors using 2mm shielded controlled impedance cable assemblies. The SCI connectors save board space without affecting performance. Users can verify signal integrity, impedance matching and crosstalk performance for designs requiring up to 1 Gbps single-ended performance per signal line or 5 Gbps differential performance per signal pair.
