ATLANTA, Feb. 2, 2005 — UP Media Group Inc. is pleased to announce a “Call for Abstracts” for PCB Design Conference East 2005, which will be held the week of October 10 – 14, 2005, at The Center of New Hampshire in Manchester, NH. Sponsored by respected industry trade magazines Printed Circuit Design & Manufacture and Circuits Assembly, PCB East annually provides attendees and vendors with the ultimate conference and exhibition for the design and manufacture of advanced circuits, PCBs and semiconductor packages.

PCB Design Conference East 2005 will once again provide attendees with a Professional Development and Technical Conference program that is unparalleled in the industry. The five-day conference is made up of a three-day Technical Conference (Tuesday – Thursday) that features short courses and papers, and two days (Monday and Friday) of Professional Development one-day and two-day courses. In addition to an exciting show floor of top industry vendors, this year’s show will feature a variety of free networking and special events that will be announced at a later date on the show Web site.

Papers and/or presentations are being sought for the 3-day Technical Conference, based on the following course durations: 30-minute paper sessions, one-hour lectures or panel sessions, two-hour workshops or panel sessions, and half-day (3.5 hour) seminars. Papers and/or presentations also are sought for a Professional Development Curriculum of one-day and two-day tutorials.

To be considered as a speaker/presenter for PCB East 2005, please go to www.pcbeast.com and fill out the online submission form or send an e-mail to Conference Chair Andy Shaughnessy, ashaughnessy@upmediagroup.com, by March 4, 2005. Your submission e-mail should include: a suggested course title, a suggested course length, a short description of your target audience, a detailed 100- to 300-word abstract, and a short speaker bio. Submissions also may be made by mail. Send to: PCB East 2005 Call for Abstracts, UP Media Group, 2018 Powers Ferry Rd., Suite 600, Atlanta, GA, 30339.

If selected for PCB East 2005, final papers and presentations will be due in early August 2005. All papers and/or presentations should be non-commercial in nature and should focus on technology, techniques, methodology, etc., rather than on a company’s specific products.

Papers and/or presentations selected for the 3-day Technical Conference will be presented at the Technical Conference and published on the Proceedings CD-ROM, which is distributed to all conference attendees, exhibitors and presenters/speakers. Presentations selected for the Professional Development Curriculum will be presented on days bracketing the Technical Conference. Professional Development course materials are not included on the Proceedings CD-ROM. Each speaker/presenter will receive a copy of the Technical Conference Proceedings CD-ROM, a free pass for the three-day Technical Conference, and free admission to the two-day Exhibition, Keynote Address and other special events.

Papers and presentations are sought for, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • High speed, high frequency and signal integrity
  • Lead-free processes and their effect on PCB design
  • Impedance and crosstalk control
  • EMI/EMC analysis
  • Embedded passives and active devices
  • Thermal analysis
  • RF and microwave
  • Packaging and components
  • Area arrays
  • FPGA design and implementation
  • Flexible circuitry
  • HDI design and technologies
  • PCB design/layout techniques

Development Kit Test Drives Innovative Cable Assemblies
3M introduces the Shielded Controlled Impedance (SCI) Cable Assembly Development Kit, 2mm. The development kit enables users to assess, test and design high-performance, 2mm SCI cable-to-board solutions. Engineers can attain multi-gigahertz performance from 2 mm printed circuit board connectors using 2mm shielded controlled impedance cable assemblies.

The SCI connectors save board space without affecting performance. Users can verify signal integrity, impedance matching and crosstalk performance for designs requiring up to 1 Gbps single-ended performance per signal line or 5 Gbps differential performance per signal pair.

The kit contains everything needed to assess, test and design, including a CD-ROM with application note, test instruction and technical sheets.
