JERSEY CITY, NJ, July 1 - Cookson Electronics Assembly Materials says it will hike prices for tin-based solders to cover costs incurred by rising demand and lower production.
Cookson issued a statement today that warned it would tack on
surcharges any time tin prices exceed $9,500/metric ton on the London
Metal Exchange. Last week, tin topped the $10,000 "pyschological" level.
"This year-long run up in the cost of tin has hit us particularly
hard," said David Zerfoss, president of Cookson Electronics Assembly
Materials Group. Cookson says 90% of the solder paste it sells includes
63% tin.
Cookson will drop the surcharges as tin drops below $9,500 per metric ton.
