NEW YORK, Jan. 19, 2005 - Parametric Technology Corp. has posted a better-than-expected quarterly profit driven by increased demand for its design and collaboration software.
For its fiscal first quarter ended Jan.
1, net income was $19.2 million, or 7 cents a share, compared with a
net loss of $26.5 million, or 10 cents a share, a year earlier. The
year-ago results included restructuring charges.
Revenue rose by 8% to $169.2
million, driven by higher license, service and maintenance revenue
across major product lines and geographies.
The company expects fiscal
second-quarter revenue of $170 million to $175 million and net earnings
per share of 6 cents to 8 cents.
Analysts had expected a profit of 5
cents a share for the first quarter and 6 cents a share for the second
quarter, according to Reuters Estimates. Revenue estimates are $163.8
million for the first quarter and $169 million for the second quarter.
